Recycling Still The Best Environmental Option

The Waste and Resources action programme (WRAP) have undertaken a study to further the work they did in the Environmental Benefits of Recycling – 2010 report they published previously. The new report included wood, plastics, paper and cardboard. Examining pyrolysis, gasification, anaerobic digestion, composting and energy from waste technologies. Waste recycling set to be reduced by council cuts

With the budget cuts of the country looking more and more prevalent the local waste services are being labelled as the "vulnerable" area to recover the money.

Bristol to launch waste reduction incentive scheme

Bristol council are looking to run a 6 month pilot scheme rewarding households who reduce their kerbside waste with £30 - £40 a year.

The scheme is the first of its kind in England. Since 2004/5 waste has been reduced by 23,000 tonnes this equates to £4 million of public money. By reducing this further the public with save even more money.

Extended Environmental Permitting

Environmental Permitting Programme (England and Wales) Regulations 2010 will extend the system of environmental permits to cover water discharge consents, groundwater authorisations and radioactive substances regulation. 

EPP2 will affect all businesses that:

• discharge to rivers, lakes, estuaries, coastal waters etc
• discharge substances to groundwater
• use or dispose of radioactive substances or wastes.
