WEEEcollect.com has been set up as a free national service for retailers and distributers of WEEE in the UK.
With Environment Agency WEEE target of 30% in the distance the new service allows people or companies holding the waste to arrange a free pick up to have it recycled.
By preventing batteries or other WEEE reaching the landfill we are preventing the release of hazardous metals and chemicals being released into the environment. This way the components are broken down into thier metals, plastics and glass for recycling.

Despite the worry at the beginning of the year that the packaging recycling targets had been set too high, on March 31st the Environment Agency published a report stating 7.1 million tonnes of packaging had been reprocessed or exported far above the 6.8 million tonne target.
The success of the targets is belived to be due to drivers such as the increasing landfill tax.
The Carbon Reduction Commitment is now live, if you have a half hour electricity meter, you have to record your electricity use in 2008 with the CRC scheme by 30 September 2010. If you’re a high user, you will have to pay a fee to become a participant and start reporting your electricity use.
There is potential for companies to benefit from the scheme as a league table will be produced and the paid fees recycled back to the participants based on performance.
