PET plastic prices on the rise

The prices for PET has reached unprecidented levels with a letsrecycle survey stating the price per baled tonne stood between £230 and £260. This is £200 higher than the same survey in November 2008.

The rised has been associated to an increased push towards food grade quality plastics which requires a PET plastic feed in.

Draft Position Statment On Bioaerosols

The Environment Agency have issued a draft position statement on the permitting of composting facilities regarding the release of bioaerosols.

The statment says that facilities located within 250 metres of sesitive receptors (people within the 250m of the site for prolonged periods of time) will become controlled.

Permits will not be granted for facilities within 250 metres which handle more than 500 tonnes of waste at any one time or carry out thier operations in the open.

UK's Largest Waste Park

The plans for the largest eco-park in Manchester have been developed by Covanta Energy and Peel Environmental. At the heart of the park will be a energy-from-waste facility which will produce 95MW of energy and heat which will supply the surrounding materials reprocessors.

It is belived the park will become the new model removing the over reliance of landfill for municipal and business waste.

M & S move to PET

Marks and Spencer are converting thier entire mini 25cl wine bottles from glass to PET. The conversion will reduce the packaging by 525 tonnes a year. Also by being 88% lighter the manufacturing cost is significantly reduced.
