Packaging Recycling Targets Easily Met

Despite the worry at the beginning of the year that the packaging recycling targets had been set too high, on March 31st the Environment Agency published a report stating 7.1 million tonnes of packaging had been reprocessed or exported far above the 6.8 million tonne target.

The success of the targets is belived to be due to drivers such as the increasing landfill tax.

Edward Cooke, director of packaging producer compliance scheme Compliance Link said "The figures show that we did enormously more recycling than we required. Recycling is growing and demand is collapsing. The targets have to be more closely set and have to be managed on a yearly basis".
