Hazardous waste is waste which is considered to be harmful to human health or the environment be it immediately or long term. A hazardous waste catalogue can be found on the environment agency’s website. (link included) If you produce hazardous waste you must register with the environment agency.
As well as deducing if your waste produced is hazardous you also need to know how to transport and record it legally.
Moving Waste
With very few exceptions, a consignment note must be completed to accompany hazardous waste when it is moved from any premises. This includes premises that are exempt from registration. All of the consignment forms can be found on the
Environment Agency website.
Recording waste
Which ever stage you handle hazardous waste you must keep a record. This record includes:
- Where the waste was produced
- Where you acquired the waste
- Any other movements of the waste
- Be able to supply specific information to the environment agency or emergency services.
