Pollution in the air has been regulated for many years even back to the late 12th century when coal was prohibited in London as being “prejudicial to health”.
In the modern day there is considerable legislation covering an extensive number of harmful substances including carbon dioxides, sulphur dioxides and nitrogen oxides to name a few.
There have been several guidelines and initiatives set up to reduce and monitor the emissions. These include the CRC energy efficiency scheme, pollution inventory and pollution prevention guidelines.
Pollution Inventory
The pollution inventory is an annual record of pollution in England and Wales. Companies complete the forms, this information is subsequently collated and provides a valuable resource. The information provides governments with the ability to meet national and international commitments and reporting obligations, as well as providing information to environmental regulators and the public.
Pollution Prevention
The pollution prevention and pollution pays back guidelines provide a good management advice. This includes environmental practise on pollution avoidance and how to deal with accidents.
CRC energy efficiency scheme
The CRC scheme is a new mandatory scheme coming into place in April 2010. The scheme aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions through energy efficiency. The first stage is to check if your company meets the qualification criteria to confirm if you have to participate. Failure to participate may lead to being fined.
