Carbon Monitoring - Gas Table

Enter data using the same building names and numbers as for electricity

Enter gas usage in kWh

Different Units
- If billed/meter readings are in ft3 or m3 then use the conversion at the top of the page. The calorific value of the gas used for the conversion calculations is 39.2 based on national grid figures for the West Midlands. If a more accurate calorific value is known then this can be altered at the top of the page.

Degree days – This is a calculation that allows gas usage to be adjusted according to the weather. Degree days data is based on a baseline temperature of 15.5⁰C this is the temperature at which most UK buildings do not need supplementary heating. A degree day is the difference between the baseline temperature and the actual temperature multiplied by the number of days.

Benchmarking: there is also benchmarking data available here, again for the same types of offices and for warehouses.

The Warehouse categories are as follows:

Warehouse type

Description

Warehouse light large

Over 5000m2, modern construction, occupied for 5 days per week for an 8 hr shift

Warehouse light small

Under 5000m2, modern construction, occupied for 5 days per week for an 8 hr shift

Warehouse medium large

Over 5000m2, single storey building of masonry or concrete with solid partitions, occupied for 5 days per week for an 8 hr shift

Warehouse medium small

under 5000m2, single storey building of masonry or concrete with solid partitions, occupied for 5 days per week for an 8 hr shift

Offices:

no air-con open plan

no air-con cellular

air-con standard

Warehouse hours worked

If you are using the warehouse benchmarking figures and your warehouse/factory is running for more than 40 hours per week, then you need to adjust the figure in the warehouse hours column. See the table below for the multiplying factors needed. Make sure you only alter the relevant row. This will make the benchmarking figures correct for the hours worked to give a more accurate result. (n.b. the original figure in this column should be 1)
