Some of the conversion factors that are used in the carbon monitoring tool need to be updated each year. These are electricity, water and degree days data. See below for details of where to find these new figures next year.
Electricity and Water
To update the electricity and water tables use the Defra conversion factors spreadsheet http://archive.defra.gov.uk/environment/business/reporting/conversion-fa...
Select the most recent Excel document.
Electricity
The electricity factor is found in annex 3 – ‘Electricity Factors.’ See table 3c 'electricity consumed.' It is the figure for the most recent/current year – in the total direct GHG column. Put this figure in the appropriate electricity conversion factor cell.
Water use and treatment
This is in annex 9 – ‘other UK conversion factors.’ See table 9a ‘Life-cycle conversion factors for water’ and use the most up to date figure. Select the appropriate unit either million litres or cubic metres and then put this figure in the relevant cells in the appropriate tab.
Degree days
This data is obtained from the carbon trust.
http://www.carbontrust.co.uk/cut-carbon-reduce-costs/calculate/energy-me...
Use the historical degree days data pdf. This document contains tables of monthly totals for degree days. To get an annual total for degree days it is necessary to add up the monthly totals. Select the Midland region and then add up the months – remember to use Jan-Dec for calendar year reporting or April-March for financial year reporting. The total is then the annual degree days figure which can be put in the appropriate box (above the electricity table) in the appropriate tab.
